Drupal Kickstart Presentation Saturday 9/26 5pm to 5:55pm

dougvann's picture

I am extremely excited to be presenting the Drupal Kickstart session on Saturday 9/26 at 5pm. I have 55 minutes in which to condense the awesomeness of Drupal.
I am starting this thread to ask you the following...

  • If you plan on attending this session, PLZ reply with either a simple "HI" or answer some of the following questions.
  • What is your Drupal knowledge level at this time? I want to cater the session to the audience.
  • What would you really like to learn about Drupal?
  • Is there a need to start at the very beginning? What is Drupal, how did it start, why is it different, etc.
  • Would you prefer to bring laptops and actually install and/or configure Drupal
  • Many of us in the OHIO and INDIANA Drupal Users Groups are wanting to do some Birds of a Feather sessions on Drupal. What would you like to see there?
  • Basically, what do you want from this Drupal Kickstart session?

I have a session prepared but I would be remiss were I not to engage the attendees in the formation of the session. Think of it as OpenSource session content planning!

Any and all replies are welcome. If you wish to reply privately you can contact me at http://dougvann.com/contact
See you there!

Figuring Out CMS

Hi Doug,

I have done static web sites for a decade or so, but never got any good at it. I keep thinking that CMS systems such as Drupal might make me look better, even if I don't achieve Rockstar status.
CMS's have that extra wrinkle of configuring with MySQL backend and tracking a few passwords.
I have recently set up a couple Wordpress sites only to find that I am getting contributions from Russia that have nothing to do with my subject. Also, for awhile somebody was highjacking the webmaster email box on that domain so I probably set up the security improperly.
I am hoping that your session gives me some ideas on how to improve my web site development while not inviting spammers.

Greg

I hope to attend

I am hoping to attend the Drupal talk this year. It is one of the talks that I am most excited about. I do not know much about Drupal, but I would like to dive into it.

No WiFi and 55 minutes

It's going to be a WILD RIDE friends.
There is NO WiFi on Saturday AND I only have 55min in the session.
We're definitely going to have to hook up after the gig and get more of your questions answered and get your skills up!

I'd just be interested to

I'd just be interested to see what Drupal has to offer as a website developer versus Wordpress. Right now on the side I've been deploying Wordpress as an easy-to-maintain solution for people interested in running their own sites, but would love to see something else.
