Look Into Shawn's Eye...If you dare!
Last week warned you concerning Shawn Powers lurking around this website. Now he is hypnotising the Ohio LinuxFest audience with a Linux Journal: 2010 Linux Odyssey sticker. We've got word that he intends on passing them out at the Ohio LinuxFest. Don't get stuck with one of them and avoid at all costs Shawn's LTSP class and his 8:30AM Saturday keynote. If you happen to catch Shawn in the act, be sure to tell him, enough with the coupon codes. As if we wanted to dress like him anyhow.

The Source released a video interview of Elizabeth Garbee at the Ohio LinuxFest 2008. Back for the second year, Elizabeth will talk about how she's going to college next year and using her interest in open source to pay for it. If you are a high schooler, a college student, or a parent, you can't afford not to see this talk at the Ohio LinuxFest on September 26. In the meantime, see these videos from The Source:

What other group will we be oddly paired with?

Leave your jar

To someone who grew up in an era when state-of-the-art communications meant the phone1, today's Internet offers a dazzling array of options. Users and developers of Linux and Free Software can use e-mail, forums, the multifarious forms of chat, wikis, and much more to talk with one another at any moment of the day. And it's true that without these channels, many Free Software projects simply wouldn't exist.
But as I once saw a person2 put it, "I think of everyone on the Internet as a brain in a jar." Despite the massive value of today's electronic communications, there is still a level of detachment that comes with them.
