|Advanced PostgreSQL Administration||
Participants should be proficient in regular Postgres DBA functions. The Introduction to Postgres Administration course and its associated Certification exam provide an excellent foundation. The Advanced Postgres Administration course prepares DBA's to manage large, highly available databases and their related security requirements with confidence.
|Provisioning VMs Quickly with Vagrant and CFEngine||
During this hands-on tutorial you will learn how to quickly provision local test/development/demo environments using Vagrant and Virtualbox. will cover provisioning and configuring machines quickly using Vagrant and CFEngine. You will learn how Vagrant and Virtualbox can be used to bring up local development/test/demo environments. You will also learn how CFEngine can be leveraged to automate configuration of the environment after it has been initialized. You will take away a multi-vm test environment managed by CFEngine.
|Puppet Workflow Training||
This training course builds on the concepts introduced in the "Introducing Puppet" Training to share best practices for automating system administration using Puppet, such as:
- Puppet Agent and Master
- Puppet Workflow
- Scaling Puppet
- Additional Puppet concepts
After completing the course, students will be able to discuss best practices for deploying a Puppet solution and apply a basic best practice approach to their own Puppet system automation work.
This session will go through some of the customizations and optional features available in the RT configuration file and via the web interface. We'll talk about Custom Fields, useful to capturing extra information, and tap into RT's powerful scrip and templating features, showing how you can automate correspondence and other actions in your ticket workflows. We'll also discuss lifecycles, which are the key to configuring custom workflows for different queues.
|Intro to PostgreSQL Administration||
In this course you will learn the essential details of essential PostgreSQL Administration tasks including: the over all PostgreSQL architecture, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, backups, recovery, and moving data.This class conveys the knowledge necessary for the student to perform their duties as a PostgreSQL DBA, and is a foundation for the Advanced and Performance courses that follow in the DBA track. This course is designed for people with experience in database administration but who are new to the PostgreSQL.
This training course introduces the main concepts of the Puppet IT Automation solution at a high level, including lecture and hands-on labs for the following topics: - Why Puppet- Puppet Modules and Manifests- Leveraging the Puppet Forge- Puppet Enterprise After completing the course, students will be able to discuss the benefits of the Puppet solution and apply basic Puppet system administration concepts to their own system automation needs.
This session gives an overview of what RT is and how to get it from an initial install to a useful, working system. We'll quickly go over the basics of ticketing, typical ticket workflows, setting up queues, and setting up users. Then we'll get into more detail with permissions (users, groups, roles on tickets), homepage customizations, dashboards, and basic searching and reporting.
|SELinux for Mere Mortals||
While Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is an incredibly powerful tool for securing Linux servers, it has a reputation for being difficult to configure. As a result, many system administrators would simply turn it off.
|You Should Be Using Vim||
Have you used vi in the past and wondered why anyone in their right mind would do that to themselves? Are you a vi user who wonders what the fuss is about Vim? Either way, this class is for you. We will go over Vim basics like modes, motions, operators, and commands, but that is just the start. We will work our way up to more advanced topics like ranges, regular expressions, registers, macros, text objects, and more.
Linux Basics is an introductory class for people who are basically comfortable with using a computer for web browsing, word processing, and so forth, but who are new to GNU/Linux. You will learn how to do a typical Linux installation on a PC, and how to use and maintain GNU/Linux and several popular applications.Students will be provided a PC laptop to use for a hands-on experience. The class will use the Ubuntu distribution of Linux, which is popular with many newcomers, but most of what you learn will be applicable to other Linux versions as well.
|LPIC Cram Session||
LPI Certification is for experienced system administrators with at least 6 intense months of administration experience. We will cover the topics LPI 101 and LPI 102 depending on attendee knowledge level. To get the most out of the class, bring your own PC (Computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, power cords, surge protector, etc. Laptops encouraged.) Each student gets a tutorial binder for home study. For those who choose to pursue the LPI level one certification at the Ohio LinuxFest can do so for an additional discounted cost on Sunday, September 14.
